Marbella is one of the busiest cities on the Costa del Sol. In another post we already proposed some plans to enjoy the city.

We know that you really like this area of the Costa del Sol, and if you’ve been wanting to explore Marbella a little better, we recommend new activities and plans that will help you discover this beach town, whatever the seasons.

Getting lost in the old town of Marbella
Marbella has one of the most beautiful old towns on the Costa del Sol. Many tourists come to this city for its shops, its nightlife or its attractive seaport, however, are fascinated by Marbella when visiting its old town.
Get lost in its narrow and winding streets, discover corners where your photos for Instagram will be spectacular or tapear in the local area.
We warn you that you will not be able to stop surprising yourself with the typical Andalusian architecture of the buildings, the art galleries or the shops with typical products of the area.

2)The Church of the Incarnation
This church is one of the most famous in the city as it is one of the oldest in Marbella. Before being a church it was an Arab mosque, possibly the largest in the whole city.

After the reconquest of Marbella by the Christians from the Muslims in June 1485, this ancient mosque was sacralized and converted into a church and served as a meeting point for the worship of this religion, although it was not until a few centuries ago that it was reformed into the church that we can now contemplate.
3) Mezquita del Rey Abdul Aziz al Saud
This mosque dates from the fifteenth century, after the Christian reconquest of Spain, was the first to be built. Its architecture shows the Moorish heritage in Andalusia. The mosque is surrounded by beautiful Mediterranean-style gardens where you can find moments of peace or reflect spiritually.

During your visit to this mosque you will see the beautiful bronze candle inside. Although it was made in the second century of the Hegira, this handcrafted relic is preserved in perfect condition.

However, the most impressive part of this building is not its gardens, the old handmade lamp or the possibility to house more than 800 believers, but its collection of more than 30,000 volumes on the study of the Koran. It is definitely one of the obligatory stops during your visit to Marbella.

4) Venus
This sculpture was one of the main attractions of the city during the 70s. This bronze Venus is located in the roundabout of Fontanilla Beach, popularly known as the Fountain of the Marbella Venus. You can not leave this municipality without a photo imitating the venus that is practicing water skiing.

5) River Park in the centre of Marbella
If during your visit to Marbella you want to enjoy nature or relax for a while, the Parque del Río is the place you are looking for. This beautiful wooded area is located in the PArque de la Represa, right in the centre of the city, between Avenida Juan Alameda and Maiz Viñals.

Walk by the lake while you contemplate the ducks or turtles that are in it, visit the Bonsai Museum or enjoy the views from the Mirador that you will find next to the lake. If you go with children you can go to the Skatepark area to play while you have a snack in the park cafeteria.

You will also be surprised to learn that this natural space has been awarded the prize for the best “Urban Park on the Costa del Sol” on several occasions.

Costa del Sol has become one of the favourite tourist destinations. It’s gastronomy and cultural offer, added to the excellent weather during most of the year, makes this destination a safe bet to spend your holidays.

One of the most popular locations in this destination is Marbella, where you will find leisure, cultural, gastronomic or sports plans, suitable for both the youngest members of the household and adults.

Marbella retains the charm of a coastal town, while being considered one of the most cosmopolitan destinations, as it is the destination chosen by a large part of the international elite, not only to relax during their holidays but to live throughout the year.

To make your stay on the Costa del Sol as enjoyable as possible, we offer you a selection of plans that will not leave you indifferent.

1)The Church of the Holy Christ

This historic building located in the old town of Marbella, is part of a Franciscan convent of the sixteenth century. Enjoy its characteristic façade while strolling through the lively square in which the church is located.

The Santo Cristo church is, without a doubt, one of the must-see sights during your visit to Marbella and cannot be missed in the photographs of your trip.

2) Plaza de los naranjos (Orange trees s quare)

In the heart of Marbella’s old quarter, surrounded by streets full of life and charm, we find the Plaza de los Naranjos.  This is one of the most special places in the city, as it will make you teleport to the origins of this town Malaga.

The square is surrounded by some of the most important buildings in Marbella such as the Ermita de Santiago, which is the oldest Christian parish in the city and after the reconquest was consecrated as a mosque, or the town hall built in 1572.

In addition, in the same square you can go shopping or taste the wonderful gastronomy of the Costa del Sol in the bars and restaurant that you will find around.

3) The walls of the Moorish castle of Marbella

As its name suggests, this wall was part of a bastion that protected the entire city of Marbella during the reign of the caliphs in the eleventh century.

Given its historical importance, the walls of this Moorish castle have been considered Heritage of Cultural Interest. Thanks to its marvellous state of conservation, we are very aware of the city’s Mozarabic past and its history.

If you visit the city in summer, it is very possible that you can attend some of the concerts that are carried out in them. Don’t miss them!

4) Sculptures of Dali on Avenida del Mar

For art lovers this is a must. One of the best plans to enjoy the climate of the Costa del Sol is to walk from Parque Alameda to Playa de la Venus along this avenue.

The tour is decorated with 10 of the famous bronze statues designed by the wonderful Salvador Dalí, giving rise to an open-air museum that you can enjoy while walking, doing sports or have a coffee on one of the terraces of the avenue.

5) Ralli Museum

Famous for the impressive works of contemporary art on display, there are only 5 Rally Museums worldwide. Don’t miss the opportunity to visit 1 of them on your visit to Marbella. You will find important collections made up of sculptures by Salvador Dalí and paintings by Paul Wunderlich, Joan Miro, Marc Chagall, Henry Moore, Max Ernst and André Mason, among others.
